THAT Meet, Hillsborough NC January 11-13, 2008
Nine members of the Carteret Currents Swim Team traveled to Hillsborough, NC January 11-13 for the sixth annual Tar Heel Aquatic Team (THAT) Open Invitational. Competing in the Senior Open sessions were Bobby Bittner (14), Kathryn Costin (13), Morganne McIntyre (14), and Mary Ann Varner (14). Representing the Currents in the 12 & Under Age Group sessions were Cricket Corwin (8), Veronica Munagorri (8), Grant Meadows (7), Emily Kelleher (11), and Carlee Boyd (10).
Bobby Bittner (14) was the top finisher for the Currents in the Senior Open Division, finishing overall 4th in the 100 fly, 8th in the 50 freestyle and 400 IM, 9th in the 100 back, and 10th in the 500 freestyle.
This was an exciting meet that blended experienced swimmers like National Champion Chip Peterson (former Current), with many newcomers. Over 25 personal best times were recorded by the Currents’ swimmers.
The Carteret Currents is a year-round USA Swim Club for ages 5 to college age that trains at the Sports Center in Morehead City and the Cape Carteret and Wellness Center in Cape Carteret. For more information about the Currents, please call 252-646-4998.
